The Rabbit Test, 2024

Tea-dyed linen/cotton fabric, acrylic paint. 12x12. 2024

Originally made for the "rabbit rabbit" show at Faye's Video, I constructed this piece as a meditation on perimenopause and hormonal experience. The fabric is dyed with red clover tea, red clover being a favorite food of rabbits and also an herbal remedy for the symptoms of perimenopause. The depiction of the rabbit as a saint refers to the archaic practice of injecting a rabbit with the urine of a presumed pregnant individual; "the rabbit died" was a euphemism indicating the positive result of a pregnancy test. I brought the sainted rabbit into the piece as a nod to menopause being the end of a uterine body's reproductive years.
